About The Department

Year of Establishment

2014-15 (General)

The Department of Economics was established in the year 2014, offering a Program course option for students, with the intention of providing the students with an additional and essential subject to study. Currently the department offers courses only for Minor and Elective courses for students of other Major and Honours or Program disciplines. Economics is a timeless and highly acclaimed discipline, valued for its practical utility and strong demand in the job market. At its core, economics focuses on evaluating alternatives and making informed choices. It cultivates critical thinking and problem-solving abilities essential for sound decision-making. Additionally, it hones analytical skills for examining data to support well-founded decisions. These competencies are highly sought after across careers in both the public and private sectors. Employers consistently value the skills developed through studying economics, including decision-making, problem-solving, data analysis, effective communication, and the ability to obtain and process information. However, the subject lacks awareness among students and parents and, therefore, is yet to meet its full potential.

Vision and Mission:

Academic Philosophy

The programmes offered by the Department are designed to provide a general understanding of the functioning of the economic system and the role of institutions, groups, and regions within that system. It also endeavours to prepare the student for employment in the industry, professions, and government, or to pursue graduate work toward advanced degrees in economics or related fields.
